The main hero of the day at the Baku 2015 European Games, gymnast Oleg Stepko, noted in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza the results of his performance and said that "at the moment I have no special emotions, just stupor and shock. Franky speaking, I did not expect such a result.
"It was a very difficult day. Finally, the European Games are over for me. It was a very difficult atmosphere, a very big responsibility and extremely serious preparations. This has led to the results that you can see now. Certainly, I am very pleased that I was able to win the full set of medals. I have a gold medal, and in addition to it I have silver and bronze ones. I am very tired, even exhausted, but at the same time very happy and excited," the athlete said.
According to Stepko, he didn’t hope for the gold medal till the last minute. ‘‘The judges were very strict, but fair. The world and the European champion made a mistake. He was a major competitor. I performed my combination successfully, that is why I received the gold medal,’’ Stepko added.
According to Stepko, this is his "greatest achievement for Azerbaijan at the moment.’’ "It is so nice that I didn't let the Federation down, and didn't disappoint my coach and the many people who supported me. I think the President and his wife, as well as the president of the Federation, are satisfied with my results. I thank them very much for their support. They supported and believed in me. Thank you very much to all the fans."
