Olga Vasilyeva to Vestnik Kavkaza: Azerbaijan's interest in Russian language is growing

Minister of Education and Science of Russia Olga Vasilyeva disussed her visit to Azerbaijan, which took place last weekend, in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza. She noted that official visit to Baku was dedicated to discussion of Russian-Azerbaijani relations in the field of education.

"During the meetings with President Ilham Aliyev and Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov we discussed urgent issues in the framework of intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of education," she said.

She also participated in the event that perfectly shows current level of development of Russian-Azerbaijani contacts in the field of education. "The opening of new building of the Baku State Economic University's branch in Derbent was held during my visit. This institution was opened in Dagestan in 1993, and now it has a new building," she noted.

According to her, Azerbaijan's interest in Russian language is constantly growing. "First of all, it's great that 10% of children and 10% of students in the republic are studying in Russian. Teachers are always trying to develop this trend," she stressed.

"A lot of things unite us, and Russian language is, of course, one of the main foundations of our cultural friendship," she concluded.
