"Omicron" reaches Beijing

The first case of infection with the omicron strain of coronavirus was detected in the Chinese capital, Beijing, yesterday, the city's Center for Disease Control and Prevention said.

"On January 15, at 19:29 (14:29 Moscow time), one new local case of COVID-19 infection was confirmed in Beijing," the report says, which also notes that this is an Omicron strain, RIA Novosti reports.

The patient lives in Haidian District, located in the northwest of the city. In the past 14 days, he has not traveled anywhere or resided in other Chinese provinces or cities.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that the XXIV Winter Olympic Games will open in Beijing on February 4, which will be held in the capital of China until February 20.
