The transfer of the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in Israel broke hopes for a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said during a speech at the emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul.
According to him, Washington's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transfer of the US embassy to this city is contrary to the international law. "This step, taken despite numerous warnings, broke hopes for a peaceful and sustainable resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and opened the way to a humanitarian catastrophe," TASS quotes the diplomat as saying.
