Overview of Georgian mass media (October 23-29)

The main theme of Georgian mass media publications remains the worsening of the situation in the country due to the recent disclosure of videos, where people were torturing by representatives of the former authorities, which involved a series of attacks on the offices of the United National Movement.

"Yesterday was notable for multilateral confrontations and accusations: the prime accused the National Movement of spreading scandalous videos. President accused Prime Minister inciting people to revolt. Ministers and deputies accused President of putting pressure on the court. The opposition, in its turn, accused the former and current government of deliberate destabilization of the situation in the country and so on.

‘‘If it continues in this way the civil confrontation is inevitable,’’ political analysts consider. According to them, the country is almost on the verge of civil war. Political analysts express concern that if the situation is not normalized Europe will stop speaking with us soon. The authorities do not share their fears and believe there are no resources in the country to organize the revolution, or a protest wave,’’ an article published in the newspaper Rezonansi on October 23 reports.

The current situation is aggravated by the Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s statements, according to which, he allowed to attack on offices of the United National Movement.
