Pakistan opens fire in response to Taliban operation

According to Pakistan's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Taliban initiated unprovoked firing at multiple border points in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, prompting an immediate response from Pakistani security forces.

"The Afghan Taliban miscalculated and opened unprovoked fire on several points along the Pakistan-Afghan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which is receiving an immediate and effective response from Pakistani security forces",

the ministry reported.

The exchange follows Afghanistan's announcement on Thursday of the launch of a military operation against Pakistan.
