The Palestinian flag was raised at the UN headquarters in New York today for the first time.
The ceremony took place in the rose garden on the waterfront of the complex. It was attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Previously, on September 10, the General Assembly endorsed a resolution, according to which the flags of countries with observer status at the global organization can be raised on the territory of the UN headquarters. At the moment, the observers are Palestine and the Vatican, TASS reminds.
