Pashinyan: Shusha is Azerbaijani city

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said it was impossible to end the war in Nagorno Karabakh with lesser territorial losses.

"It is a myth that it was possible to end this war with less territorial losses," he said yesterday in response to deputies' questions during a question-and-answer session with government officials in parliament.

Opposition Prosperous Armenia Party MP Naira Zohrabyan asked the PM if Russian President Vladimir Putin's words about the possibility of "ending the war on more favorable (for the Armenian side) conditions while maintaining control over Shusha." Pashinyan replied that he touched on these issues in detail in his interviews earlier.

During the negotiations not a single option was discussed, according to which the refugees from Azerbaijan would not return to Shusha, he said.

The number of Azerbaijanis living in Shusha was over 90% before the conflict, the prime minister recalled. "Are you saying that Shushi with its more than 90% Azerbaijani population is Armenian?" Pashinyan concluded.
