Almost 25,000 Armenian troops could have been surrounded by the enemy unless Yerevan signed a ceasefire agreement on Karabakh, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an address to the people on Thursday.
According to the prime minister, the military commandment told him that the campaign had to be stopped and the so-called president of the fake NKR regime in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan that Khankendi could be lost.
He noted that if Khankendi was lost, then Askeran and Agdere would fall. "In that case, seven defending districts would have been surrounded, more than 20,000 soldiers and officers would be under siege and facing death or captivity," Sputnik Armenia cited the prime minister as saying.
Pashinyan said he signed the ceasefire agreement with Azerbaijan to save the lives of soldiers.
