Secretary of Russia's Security Council Nikolai Patrushev named the greatest threat to national security. He expressed his thoughts at the member states' national security high representatives' meeting in Beijing.
"The greatest threat to national security comes from a new generation of terrorists, uniting under the banners of ISIS (a terrorist group banned in Russia)," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.
"The successful actions of the government and international forces in Syria led to a change in the strategy of terrorists, forced them to look for alternative territories in various parts of the world, as well as intensify efforts to maintain a high level of financial security," Patrushev warned.
According to the Secretary of Russia's Security Council, this is achieved by diversifying sources of funding and channels for their provision.
Patrushev clarified that, upon returning home, these gunmen form illegal underground gangs. According to him, extremist groups merge with criminal syndicates.
