Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry removed the name of Paul Salopek, an employee of National Geographic, from the list of persona non grata. He was included on the list for illegally visiting Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia, the head of the ministry’s press service, Hikmet Hajiyev said.
Salopek sent a letter to the Foreign Ministry, in which he expressed regret about his illegal visit and noted that he respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
The US journalist stressed that his visit wasn't intended to serve the purpose of recognizing the regime created on Azerbaijan’s occupied territories and apologized to the people of Azerbaijan.
The journalist was also granted permission to visit Azerbaijan as part of the 'Out of Eden Walk' project to study the routes of ancient peoples, Trend reports.
