Opening of the branch of Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University in Baku was possible thanks to First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, rector of Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (MSMU) Petr Glybochko said, speaking with the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza today.
"Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva is our graduate, she graduated from the First Medical University and now she is an honorary professor of MSMU. I can say that the idea of opening our branch in Azerbaijan has been implemented thanks to her support. The branch has been functioning for already three years, and today 500 students receive education there. Mehriban Aliyeva not just supports our work, but also constantly helps in solving the tasks that arise in the framework of the Baku branch," Petr Glybochko stressed.
The rector of MGMU explained that the branches of medical universities have their own specifics. "We we need more than just audiences and computers, which we have, but also clinics and laboratories. We are pleased that, thanks to Mehriban Aliyeva, every year the branch receives these areas and all the equipment necessary for high-quality education of students. A special feature of this branch is that only MSMU professors teach there, and they are happy to work in Baku, because they have a decent salary here and all their financial expenses, be it a flight or a stay, are compensated by the Azerbaijani side," he said.
"We believe that the Baku branch of our university is an interesting project, and not just for us, but also for Russian education in general, and for Azerbaijan as well. Only those guys who are fluent in Russian study in the branch, they have to take an entrance examination in Russian, which allows the branch to grow rapidly," Petr Glybochko added.
In general, the rector of MSMU noted, the university is in regular contact with Mehriban Aliyeva on various issues. "It is possible that Mehriban Aliyeva will visit Moscow for the 260th anniversary of our university and will take part in all the events dedicated to the anniversary of her alma mater," he concluded.
