The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Russian Federation held a solemn event today dedicated to the Day of Azerbaijani Armed Forces that it traditionally celebrated on June 26th. The meeting was attended by military attaches from more than 70 countries.
"I want to congratulate everybody with the holiday of our Army. This is a very important day and a very important event for Azerbaijan because you know that 20% of the country’s territory is under occupation due to the aggression of the neighboring state. Despite international efforts, the UN Security Council’s resolution, the UN General Assembly resolution, the Council of Europe, more than 20% of the territory of Azerbaijan is still under the occupation. Unfortunately, technological negotiations haven’t brought its results yet,’’ the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary stressed Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu said.
"The meeting with participation of three Presidents took place a week ago on the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting was held in a positive way, so it still gives us hope for a political settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. But the army is the guaranty of success. The army guarantees the sovereignty and integrity of any self-sufficient country, including Azerbaijan," the diplomat noted.
"Certainly, it took us a long time because Azerbaijan has gone through the different stages of its history. And, unfortunately, in the 90s of the last century when a huge country of USSR collapsed, it unfortunately led to chaos in some military affairs. And then, taking advantage of the situation, we were subjected to aggression. I would like to emphasize that time we had no the army. There were scattered separate groups of people who tried to resist. That is why Azerbaijan was not ready to fight against that aggression and we lost our territories,’’ Polad Bulbuloglu said.
"But today the situation is completely the opposite. Today, Azerbaijan has a strong army that can perform any tasks by the commander in chief. And the events of recent years have proven advantages of the Azeri army twice over the opponent. It was was especially obvious at the beginning of April this year when the Azerbaijani army was forced to respond to the provocation and performed the necessary tasks. It proved the fact once again that today the Azerbaijani army is equipped with all the necessary things in order to perform its goals,’’ the ambassador said.
