The Polish government has decided to ban imports of coal from Russia, Peter Muller, the press secretary of the government of the republic, told a briefing on Tuesday.
According to him, Poland can no longer wait for a decision from the European Commission.
"Referring to security issues, we have gone a step further and come up with the rules that block the import of coal from Russia at the country level. This will be written into the law," Muller said.
He explained that the Polish government has hammered out a draft law "On decisions in the area of counteracting support for Russia's aggression in Ukraine." The official said that "given the inaction of the European Council in adopting further sanctions," Poland is trying to look for ways to refer to security issues in order to make decisions at the state level.
"We understand that this can lead to problems with legislation, but we cannot wait any longer for the EU's reaction. Therefore, such a ban is being introduced," Muller added.
