The Turkish parliament hasn’t formed a coalition government due to disagreements among the ruling Justice and Development Party and the opposition parties. At the same time, today in the 4th round of the elections Ismet Yilmaz from the AKP has been voted the speaker of the parliament. Vestnik Kavkaza in connection with the situation had a conversation with Turkish political scientists about their opinions of the new speaker, and how likely the formation of a coalition government in the present parliament and re-elections in Turkey are.
Political analyst Professor Zulfikar Dogan noted that Yilmaz has always adhered to a constructive position on cooperation with Russia, Azerbaijan and Central Asia.
"Ismet Yilmaz was 13 years in power. And he has always been a positive figure in relations with Russia, Azerbaijan and Central Asia. I think he will continue his activity in the post of the head of the parliament," the analyst said.
"Ismet Yilmaz is supported by Erdogan. This candidate will strengthen the positions of Ahmet Davutoglu within the AKP," Dogan said.
As for the prospects of forming a coalition government, the political scientist thinks that the opposition are unlikely to agree among themselves, which will play into the hands of the president.
