Polling places for casting ballots in the South Ossetian parliamentary elections have opened throughout the breakaway republic.
"Polling [places] have opened without any issues," the South Ossetian Central Election Commission said, Urdu Point reports citing Sputnik.
A total of 77 polling places throughout 17 Constituencieswill be open on Sunday, of which 73 are in South Ossetia, one in Moscow, two in the South Ossetian consulate in North Ossetia and one in Sukhum, Abkhazia.
South Ossetian authorities have increased security and temporarily closed the border with Georgiafor the duration of the elections.
Around 800 police officers are on duty during the elections.
