Pompeo pleased with Trump-Putin summit

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the meeting of US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was incredibly important.

Pompeo said that he has spoken to President Trump about the meeting, "as well as with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Secretary of State said "the president has been clear" about some of the agreements that were reached. But he declined to provide any further details.

"There were many things that came from what I view as an incredibly important meeting [between] President Trump and President Putin," Pompeo said, calling it "one I think the world will benefit from when history is written."

Pompeo and Mattis spoke following two days of bilateral meetings with Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop and Defense Secretary Marise Payne at the Hoover Institution, Politico reported.
