A new reserve which boasts a number of impressive and unique Pontine Oak trees has been added to the list of protected areas in Georgia.
The Pontine Oak wood is put on the Red List. The Pontine Oak reserve is located in Chokhatauri Municipality, in the Georgian region of Guria. It covers 443 hectares, Agenda.ge reported.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the reserve has been created to preserve the unique forest and ecosystem of Georgia.
The bill on the new protected area was developed by the Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia, the Agency of Protected Areas and the World Wild Fund (WWF) Caucasus office.
