Powers of judge who ruled for Kocharyan's release from custody suspended

The powers of Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction Judge Davit Grigoryan have been suspended, a member of Armenia's Supreme Judicial Council Grigor Bekmezyan said.

Davit Grigoryan is the judge presiding over the criminal case involving former Armenian president Robert Kocharyan and several other former senior officials, who had commuted Kocharyan’s pretrial measure and ruled for his release from custody.

The judge’s attorney Georgi Melikyan has petitioned to the SJC on the violation of David Grigoryan’s rights, and has submitted a crime report to Police. According to the lawyer, the judge’s office was sealed prior to receiving a court order for a search warrant, which he considers to be unlawful, News.am reported.

On July 16, Grigoryan’s office was searched and sealed. Melikyan said that as a result of the search, documents and drives related to the criminal case involving Kocharyan were seized.
