According to the statistical institute of the republic (Turkstat) data, in Turkey consumer prices rose by 54.4% in February compared to this month of 2021.
This means inflation accelerated for the ninth consecutive month, hitting its highest since March 2002. In December it was 48.7%, Interfax reports.
The highest price rise was in transport services (75.8%), furniture and household appliances rose by 64.8%. Food and non-alcoholic drinks prices increased by 64.5%, while hotels, cafes and restaurants rose by 55.2%. Prices in housing and communal services increased by 49.7%.
Compared to January, consumer prices in February rose by 4.8%, while in January the increase was by 11.1%.
