Former President Heydar Aliyev was a courageous and matter of fact person, who was very dedicated to Azerbaijan, Professor Bruce Knightl, who at one time was Heydar Aliyev's attending physician, told Vestnik Kavkaza.
"What I remember is that he was a courageous and matter of fact person. He was very dedicated to Azerbaijan, to the development of Azerbaijan. It's for good reason that he's considered the father of Azerbaijan. That was a very difficult time in the history," he said.
"What has happened when he was a president was a very solid development of the country. That is a wonderful thing," he noted.
"I remember him as a very nice person, very matter of fact about his own health problems. He was a very admirable man," he concluded.
