Programme to upgrade urban infrastructure launched in Georgia

The Georgian government is launching a new programme that will upgrade the urban infrastructure in 63 municipalities, Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said.

The first phase of the programme will be implemented during the next four years and 500 million GEL will be spent on it. 

"This programme includes renovation of important cultural and historical heritage sites, renovation of municipalities, administrative centers, as well as creation of recreational spaces, development of tourist infrastructure in parks, construction of all municipal buildings, urban renewal of resorts and settlements. In addition, as part of the programme new leisure, tourist and public zones will be created," Garibashvili said.

According to him, the programme will create about 15,000 jobs. 

Garibashvili said that the tenders will be announced this week and the programme implementation in 63 municipalities will start in June.

The programme will be implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Municipal Development Fund, Agenda,ge reported.
