Putin: Russian officials should switch to using domestically-produced cars

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed that Russian state and municipal officials should ride around in cars made in Russia.

He said that ministries, agencies, the presidential staff offices have asked him to continue with purchases focused on foreign-produced cars, to carry on with this practice.

"I replied that this was totally unacceptable and all Russian officials should be riding in domestically produced cars," Putin said.

According to the head of state, Russia should not reject imports entirely, but the country should be able to produce some basic items on its own.
