Disagreements between Saudi Arabia and Iran are hampering efforts to settle the Syrian conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with the German daily Bild, the second part of which was published today.
"It definitely complicates our efforts to find a solution to the Syrian problem and to solve the problem of combating terrorism, the matter of stopping refugee flows to Europe," he said.
At the same time, Putin has found it difficult to assess whether Tehran-Riyadh tensions could lead to a major regional confrontation. "I do not want to speak or even think about such a turn of events. We have very good relations with Iran and a sustainable partnership is being formed with Saudi Arabia," he noted.
"If our mediation will be needed, we are ready to make all possible efforts to help end it as soon as possible," TASS cited the head of state as saying.
