Today Russia celebrates Agricultural Workers' Day, established by presidential decree on May 31, 1999.
On this holiday, Russian President Vladimir Putin called agro-industrial complex one of the most dynamic sectors of the country's economy.
"Today agriculture and agro-industrial complex as a whole is one of the most dynamic sectors of our economy. This year we expect a record grain harvest - about 130 million tons. Moreover, we managed to achieve this in not the most favorable weather conditions," he said.
He stressed that Russia confirmed its status as the leading grain power and that when it comes to wheat exports, Russia also has leading position in the world. He highlighted positive dynamic in other areas: production of pork and poultry, harvest of oilseeds, sugar beet, fruits, vegetables.
"We see that measures aimed at stimulating the industry prove their effectiveness. At the same time, different forms of agricultural activity are also actively developing: I'm not just talking about large enterprises, but also about small farms," Russian leader said.
The head of state noted that this trend indicates the revival of Russian traditions. "This includes support of farmers' movement, as well as measures aimed at the development of agricultural sector. This will definetely be continued," he added.
