Putin and Chinese leader hold bilateral summit via video linkup

Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Xi Jinping of China have held a bilateral summit via video linkup, the China Central Television (CCTV) said on Wednesday.

"[Russia and China] reliably pooled efforts in tackling the spread of the coronavirus infection right at the beginning of the pandemic," Putin said.

"China is turning into an international center of production of Russian vaccines Sputnik V and Sputnik Light. Contracts on the production of over 150 mln doses of the vaccine have been signed with six Chinese producers," he added.

According to the Russian leader’s data, bilateral trade grew by 31% in January-November this year to $123 billion.

"Therefore, we have surpassed the record figures of the 2019 pre-pandemic year. In the immediate future, as we agreed, we will surpass the level of $200 billion," the head of the Russian state assured.

There is a plethora of questions on the agenda. The leaders will likely address some international issues, in particular, NATO’s aggressive rhetoric and tense situation in Europe.

During the talks, the sides are planning to discuss the entire range of bilateral relations, including energy, cooperation in the field of high tech, joint investments, and trade. Traditionally, the leaders are going to exchange views on regional issues.
