Today, at the summit of the 'Big Twenty' (G20) in the Turkish region of Antalya, the Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama shook hands.
Also, the two leaders exchanged a few words before the official photo ceremony of the 'Twenty', then the heads of state participating in the G20 headed to a working lunch.
Earlier, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov did not rule out the possibility that the leaders will be able to talk in the framework of events in Turkey, however a formal meeting between Putin and Obama at G20 summit was not planned.
For her part, Obama's adviser on national security Susan Rice also announced that a formal meeting of the presidents of the US and Russia is not on the schedule of the US leader at the G20 summit in Turkey, but clarified that the leaders of the two countries will have many opportunities for direct communication.
The last time the Presidents of Russia and the United States met was on September 28th at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The main topics of their talks were the conflicts in Syria and Ukraine.
"Only collectively can we cope with the terrorist threat," Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at today's informal meeting of BRICS countries in Turkey, commenting on the terrorist attacks in Paris. "We realize that to fight the terrorist threat and to help the millions of people who have lost their homes is possible only by combining the efforts of the entire international community," RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.
According to him, it is necessary to act in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, relying on international norms and respecting sovereign rights
