Putin calls UN a unique mechanism

Russian President Vladimir Putin considers the United Nations a unique mechanism that adequately fulfills its mission.

He made these remarks during his address at an international forum in Ashgabat commemorating the International Year of Peace and Trust, International Neutrality Day, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.

"Created 80 years ago, it continues to adequately fulfill its mission and is, in fact, a unique, often the only, mechanism that allows for the international balance of interests",

Vladimir Putin said.

The UN was founded on October 24, 1945, with this year marking the organization's 80th anniversary.
