Putin clarifies Russia’s position on Ukraine in phone call with Israeli PM

Russian President Vladimir Putin has clarified Moscow’s position on the situation in Ukraine in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, the Kremlin press service said in a statement on Wednesday following the conversation initiated by Israel.

"Vladimir Putin clarified Russia’s principled position on resolving the conflict, including the need to take Russia’s security interests into account, demilitarize and denazify the Ukrainian state and ensure its neutral and non-nuclear status, as well as to recognize Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea and the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics," the statement reads.

"The parties continued to discuss the situation around Russia’s special military operation to protect Donbass. Naftali Bennett shared some of his views on the issue based on his recent contacts with the leaders of a number of countries," the statement reads.

The Russian president and the Israeli prime minister agreed to maintain contact.
