Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated the Russian team on coming in first place in the unofficial team standings at the First European Games: the national team came in ahead as an undisputed leader both in the number of gold medals (78), and in the total number of awards (162). A greeting text was posted on the website of the Olympic Committee of Russia.
"Our team has written a bright new page in the history of our national sport and has taken a very important height. Congratulations! Well done! The competition was intense. Success depended not only on skills, but also on psychological resistance, team cohesion and strength of spirit. You have fully demonstrated these qualities," TASS quotes the words of the Russian President.
