Putin: knowledge of literature and well-bred speech should become common decencies

Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the importance of studying foreign experience in popularizing national languages abroad.

"Everything must be done to make knowledge of classical and modern literature and well-bred speech an unalienable part of the country’s life, common decencies, to make this fashionable," Putin said at a plenary session of the Russian Literature and Language Society’s Congress.

According to him, these tasks can be solved only through consistent work, through well-thought-out large-scale programs, in which not only interested government agencies will take part but also citizens of the country.

"Conservation of the Russian language, literature, our culture is a matter of national security, of maintaining identity in the global world, while the Russian classical literature, standard Russian language have always been and will remain the basis of Russian spiritual values," TASS cited the Russian leader as saying.
