Russian President Vladimir Putin has dubbed the development of Moscow State University as a major factor in achieving nationwide goals.
"Unconditionally, Moscow State University (MSU) is a leader in higher education as [the university] promotes sciences actively," Putin said at a meeting of the MSU Board of Trustees on Wednesday, TASS reports.
"As the more successful our leading university is, the more grows its influence on our country’s educational system. Therefore, it has influence on the atmosphere, on the basis and conditions to achieve those nationwide goals we have set for ourselves today," Putin said.
"It is not just current or routine work, but an important nationwide challenge," he added.
Putin praised the work of the Board of Trustees, who "take care of Moscow State University with great attention," and who help the university "selflessly and with much interest."
"This work yields practical results," he stressed.
Rounding up the meeting, the president wished Russian students to have a happy Student Day, which they will celebrate on January 25, and wished them success in their studies and future careers.
