Putin signs law on renovation of apartments in Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the renovation of Moscow's housing stock. The relevant document is posted on the official portal of the legal information.

The law provides for the demolition of the dilapidated houses, mostly of the so-called Khrushchyovkas, and the resettlement of residents to the new apartments, RIA Novosti reports, clarifying that the amendments to the project guarantee respect for the rights of residents and owners of the non-residential premises.

The document also defines the concept of ‘renovation’, specifies the characteristics of the houses that can be included to the renovation program: multi-apartment buildings not above nine floors, built according to the standard designs of 1957-1968 with ‘’typical walls and (or) overlapping products’’.

The law provides apartment owners the opportunity to choose an equivalent apartment or the monetary compensation.

Recall, the State Duma approved the bill on June 14, and the Federation Council - on June 28.

The document comes into force from the moment of publication.
