Refugees in Turkish city of Diyarbakir

Residents of the Turkish city of Diyarbakir, densely populated with Kurds, are forced to leave their homes due to ongoing clashes between the police and the Kurdish activists army.

"There were about 70,000 people before all these events in Surah (historical center of Diyarbakir). About 50,000 people have left the district and now they live all over the city," the city mayor Firat Unley said.

"Nobody knows where they will live when the collisions will come to an end. There are three or four streets in Surah where buildings are completely destroyed. It is impossible to live there and they are forced to live with relatives and friends,'' RIA Novosti cites Firat Unley as saying.
