The Armenian nuclear power plant in Metsamor cannot be improved in accordance with modern safety atomic power generation requirements, and therefore it should be closed as soon as possible, according to the report of the European Commission working group on the implementation of the partnership agreement with Armenia in 2020.
"The Metsamor nuclear power plant cannot be upgraded to the level required by internationally recognized nuclear safety standards, and therefore must be closed as soon as possible and decommissioned safely," the document says.
In this regard, the European Commission stressed the need for the earliest possible formation of an appropriate roadmap for the closure of the Armenian NPP.
