Israeli State Comptroller Matanyahu Engelman made a report assessing the readiness of the country's buildings for a possible strong earthquake.

According to the data provided, most of the country's buildings have not been fortified, especially in cities along the Syrian-African rift.

Thus, 93% of the buildings that should be strengthened in Beit Shean, Tiberias, Safed, Kiryat Shmona and Hatzor Haglilit, settlements seriously damaged during the earthquake, are still not strengthened. Moreover, 38 schools out of 54 have not been strengthened yet.

Engelman also expressed concern about the unreliability of bridges and roads, as if they were damaged during an earthquake, this would make the evacuation of residents much more difficult.

According to him, three of the four entrances to Beit Shean pass through bridges, two of three of them will collapse from tremors.
