A rescue operation is under way for 700 migrants on board a boat in the Mediterranean south of Crete, the Independent reports.
Greek authorities said about 250 people have been rescued so far.
The coastguard said the boat, carrying an undetermined number of people, was located about 75 nautical miles south of Crete in international waters.
Five rescue boats, two Greek patrol boats and two helicopters have been deployed so far and a large scale operation is underway.
