Rhythmic Gymnastics Junior World Championships opens in Moscow

The 1st FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics Junior World Championships has opened at Luzhniki Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Palace in Moscow today.

The right to host the championships was given to Russia as the birthplace of rhythmic gymnastics - the only Olympic sport given to the world by the country.

The gymnasts will compete in individual program and in group exercises.

Today, on the first day, qualifying competitions in hoop and ball routines will be held at 09:00 (Moscow time). The opening ceremony will start at 17:30, after which the gymnasts will perform in group exercises with 5 ribbons and 5 hoops at 18:30. 

On July 20, the individuals will compete with clubs and ribbon at 09:00am. the groups will present their exercise with 5 ribbons and 5 hoops at 18:30. Strongest gymnasts in team competition and all-around will be awarded at the ceremony at 21:00.

In the finals, which will be held on Sunday, rope finals will start at 12:00, ball finals will start at 12:35, group finals with 5 hoops will start at 13:25, clubs finals will start at 14:20, ribbon finals will start at 14:55. The group finals with 5 ribbons will start at 15:45. A gala concert and the official closing ceremony of the European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics are to follow - 16:45 (Moscow time).

In total, the gymnasts will compete for 8 medal sets.

The 2019 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships will be held in Baku on September 16-22, 2019.
