Rocket strikes on targets in Syria commanded by Vusal Miriyev

On October 7th Russian warships launched 26 Kalibr sea-based cruise missiles at 11 Islamic State targets in Syria from the Caspian Sea.  All the targets were successfully struck, and there were no victims among the civilian population. The  Caspian Flotilla Dagestan missile ship, which launched rocket strikes on IS targets, is under the command of Captain of the Second Rank Vusal Miriyev, who was born in Azerbaijan.

Vusal Miriyev was born on August 27, 1978 in the village of Safykyurd in the Goranboy district. He has been serving in the Russian Armed Forces since 1996. After graduating from the Ushakov Baltic Naval Institute, he was sent to serve in the Caspian Flotilla. He worked as commander assistant on a missile boat in 2002-2005, and commander of a missile boat in 2005-2010.  Miriyev worked as a commander of the guard ship Tatarstan in 2010, and after a while he was appointed commander of the missile ship Dagestan. On August 13th 2013 the ship was visited by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The commander was presented to the heads of states, and it was a pleasant surprise for the Azerbaijani leader that Vusal Miriyev is his countryman.

The captain is married, he has a son and two daughters, the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said.
