Rosatom can sell its stake in Akkuyu NPP project

Turkish construction company Cengiz Insaat is in talks about buying up to 49% of the $20 billion Akkuyu nuclear power plant being built by Russia's Rosatom, Reuters cited a source familiar with the matter as saying.

The Russian-owned project, Turkey's first nuclear power plant, has been complicated by the deterioration in ties between the two countries.

In December, Turkish energy officials said that Rosatom had stopped construction work on the project.

Rosatom declined to comment on the issue.

The intergovernmental Russian-Turkish agreement on construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant provides construction of four power units (VVER-1200) with a capacity of 1.2 GW each in accordance with the Russian project "NPP-2006", TASS reports.
