Excavation work for the reactor building has begun at the Jizzakh region site where Rosatom is building Uzbekistan's nuclear power plant.

"Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev and Uzatom CEO Azim Akhmedkhadzhaev launched the key stage of construction work for a small nuclear power plant (SNPP) in Uzbekistan... construction equipment has excavated the first cubic meters of soil",

Rosatom reported.

The state corporation, serving as general contractor, specified the pit will reach 13 meters deep, requiring removal of approximately 1.5 million cubic meters of soil.

"As with all our international projects, the construction of the SNPP is designed with a high degree of localization. The work is being carried out by Uzbek subcontractors",

Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said.

The project expanded through September 2025 supplementary agreements, now comprising two high-capacity units alongside two small modular reactors.
