Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that, in spite of some disadvantages of the UN resolution in respect of the Iranian nuclear program, it has become a basis for the lifting of sanctions against his country.
"Resolution 2231 of the UN Security Council, despite some significant shortcomings, is an important moment and the basis for the termination of the sanctions that had been imposed against Iran," he said.
At the same time, the Iranian President stuck to a clear position that Tehran had never tried to develop nuclear weapons. The nuclear program of the country was directed towards peaceful purposes, so the sanctions imposed by the West were unfair.
