Tehran doesn't want a continuation of tensions with Saudi Arabia, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said.
"Iran and Saudi Arabia are two states which play a very important role in the region," he said, adding that Tehran is interested in the restoration of security in the Middle East.
The escalation of tension between Tehran and Riyadh started in January after the execution of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.
According to Rouhani, Saudi Arabia’s execution of the prominent Shia cleric "was a big mistake." "Nevertheless, we condemned the raid on the embassy and arrested the assailants," TASS cited Rouhani as saying.
