Russia, Turkey and Iran start meeting on Syria in Astana

A session of the joint task group, comprising representatives of Russia, Turkey and Iran, on the ceasefire in Syria, has begun in Kazakhstan’s Astana, a source close to the situation said.

"The session of the joint task group of Russia, Iran and Turkey began at 10:00 a.m. local time (4:00 a.m. GMT)," TASS cited the source as saying.

Representatives from Jordan will take part in the first meeting of the joint task force along with experts from Russia, Turkey, Iran and the UN, the source earlier said.

The task force is to discuss the observance of the ceasefire by Syria’s conflicting parties, to elaborate measures of control and preventing ceasefire violations, of building up trust between the Syrian authorities and the opposition, and to look at matters of humanitarian assistance.

Special attention is expected to be focused to the separation of the moderate oppositions from Jabhat al-Nusra groups.
