Russia and Belarus fail to agree on gas prices

Gazprom considers it unnecessary to cut the gas price for Belarus, a senior executive told RIA Novosti. Gazprom exports its gas on the basis of the cost of production plus transportation, its deputy board chairman Valeriy Golubev said.

Belarusian prime minister Andrei Kobiakov said that Russian gas price for Belarus should be $80 per 1 thousand cubic meters, not $142 per 1 thousand cubic meters as it averaged in the first quarter of the year, the Natural Gas Europe agency reports.

“We have a very simple formula with Belarus. We take the price of gas extraction in Yamal-Nenetsk district and add transportation costs, nothing else. This was in the signed contract,” Golubev added. He said that Belarus, at the start of the second quarter, was paying $132 per 1 thousand cubic meters.
