An agreement is anticipated shortly to kick off the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway in Iran, a strategic segment of the International North-South Transport Corridor, Director General for International Affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Transport and Urban Development Amin Taraffo said.

According to him, final arrangements are underway between Iranian and Russian companies for the railway project.

The 160-km line will traverse land already being acquired, with half of the required territory purchased so far and the remaining land expected to be secured by the end of the year (March 20, 2026), paving the way for construction to start next year.

In 2023, an agreement was signed between Russia and Iran on the construction of the Rasht-Astara railroad in northern Iran.
