Russia and Turkmenistan celebrate 20th anniversary of Friendship Treaty

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the countries.

"The 2002 agreement marked the beginning of the current stage of interstate relations between Russia and Turkmenistan. The signing of this important document created the conditions for a qualitative intensification of the bilateral dialogue and interaction in many areas," the telegram published on the Kremlin's website on Saturday reads.

The Russian leader expressed confidence that the joint efforts would ensure further strengthening of the Russian-Turkmenistan strategic partnership. "This, of course, meets the fundamental interests of our peoples, goes in line with ensuring security and stability in Central Asia and the Caspian region," the telegram runs.

Putin wished Berdimuhamedov good health and success, and well-being and prosperity to all citizens of Turkmenistan.
