Russia, Türkiye and Azerbaijan became Georgia's most important trade partners over the past month. Georgia's foreign trade turnover increased by almost 30% in January, the country's National Statistical Service reports.
Georgia's foreign trade turnover in January 2023 increased by 29.1% compared to the same period a year earlier, to $1.5 bn, the country's National Statistical Service Sakstat informs.
Exports from the country amounted to $459 mn, which is 38.5% more than in the first month of 2022. Imports exceeded $1 bn, showing an increase of 25.2%, Sputnik Georgia reports.
Georgia’s export/import
Georgia exports copper ores and concentrates, gold, ferroalloys, cars, natural grape wines and alcoholic beverages, mineral waters, nuts, and other locally produced goods.
Georgia mainly imports oil and oil products, petroleum gas and gaseous hydrocarbons, copper ores and concentrates, medicines and other goods necessary for industry and consumers. The import of copper ores and concentrates showed the greatest growth, it amounted to 2,816.8%. Imports of petroleum gas and carbon also increased significantly.
Georgia’s trade partners
Over the past month, Russia became Georgia's major trade partner. Bilateral trade turnover exceeded $263 mn, which is 18% of Georgia's total trade turnover.
The second place occupied by Türkiye with a trade turnover of $196 mn. Azerbaijan is in third place, the trade turnover with the country fell by 2.8%, but exceeded $120 mn.
