Russia bids farewell to Joseph Kobzon

Memorial service for famous Soviet and Russian singer, public and political figure, People's Artist of the USSR, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Culture Committee Josef Kobzon has ended in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow.

It lasted five hours. According to law enforcers, it was attended by more than 6 thousand people in just first 2,5 hours. Staff of the Concert Hall had to clean the scene from flowers several times.

Joseph Kobzon's son, Andrei Kobzon, said: "My father lived a perfect life. He was a great artist."

He stressed that artist's relatives and friends "received great honor from greatest people of our country."

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev attended the funeral service of famous Russian singer People’s Artist of the Soviet Union Joseph Kobzon. The crooner diedon Thursday at the age of 80.

Kobzon’s funeral is taking place in Moscow on Sunday. The president and the prime minister laid flowers at the singer’s coffin and paid their respects to Kobzon’s widow, TASS reported.

Earlier, Putin expressed his condolences to the singer’s relatives in a telegram published by Kremlin. "Please accept my deep condolences on your family’s enormous loss - the death of Joseph Kobzon. Joseph D. Kobzon was truly a people’s artist, an outstanding Russian cultural personality, a man of immense inner strength, courage and dignity," the Russian president said.
