Russia celebrates main public holiday

Russia Day is the main public holiday, which is celebrated annually on June 12. This year it fell on a Sunday, and all over the country - from Kamchatka to Kaliningrad - festive events will take place: mass celebrations, concerts, fireworks.

Russia Day is one of the youngest public holidays, it has been celebrated since 1992. The date of June 12 was chosen because it was on this day in 1990 that the First Congress of People's Deputies of the RSFSR was held, at which the Declaration on State Sovereignty of the RSFSR was adopted, proclaiming the equality of political parties and public organizations, the principle of separation of powers was adopted, the supremacy of the Constitution and the RSFSR's laws was determined throughout its territory.

The holiday's status was determined by a special decree on June 2, 1994. In 1995, on June 12, the first celebrations took place.

Traditionally, on Russia Day, a solemn ceremony will be held in the Kremlin, which will be held by Vladimir Putin. The President will present medals to the Heroes of Labor, as well as award laureates of the State Prize for outstanding achievements in various fields.

Many state leaders have already congratulated Vladimir Putin on Russia Day. Thus, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev sent a congratulatory letter in which he expressed particular satisfaction with the interaction between Russia and Azerbaijan on a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda. Ilham Aliyev also wished Vladimir Putin good health, happiness and success, and well-being and prosperity to the friendly people of Russia.

In addition to the Azerbaijani leader, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, leader of the DPRK Kim Jong-un, as well as President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and other heads of state congratulated Putin.
